About SRECTrade
Inclime, LLC, the parent company of SRECTrade.com, was founded by five cleantech-focused graduate students at Stanford University in late 2007 as part of a class on entrepreneurship. The company first focused on solar technology applications, but soon shifted their attention to the inefficient SREC trading market in New Jersey. Residential solar producers and the utilities that wanted their SRECs were having a difficult time connecting. Brokers took advantage of this disconnect by purchasing SRECs from individual producers and selling them in bulk to utilities, often with a price markup. Buyers and sellers of SRECs were frustrated by the primitive nature of the exchange, the lack of transparency of fair SREC pricing, and the power of the brokers.
These complaints were answered with SRECTrade's online auction platform, launched in August 2008. The market is now efficient, transparent, and convenient. With the middleman brokers cut out of the loop, utilities are able to meet their SREC needs less expensively, and residential solar producers receive more money for their SRECs. This allows homeowners to earn a quicker return on their solar investments and, therefore, makes investment in solar panel technology more economical. Our ultimate hope is that our auctions will enable far more rapid adoption of residential solar power units, making the Garden State an even cleaner and greener place.
